Why you might have heard from us
Build A Quote makes live price calculators for trades' own websites. To tell trades about it, we keep a short list of local trade businesses in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and London.
What we hold about a business
- its name;
- its legal form and company number;
- its website, phone number and email address;
- its town, postcode and county;
- the services it offers and a rough idea of its size;
- whether its website already shows prices, and who built the website;
- where each detail came from, and when;
- whether and how we have contacted it, and any reply;
- if you follow the link in our email to our website and then send us a form, the short label on that link, so we can see the enquiry came from our email.
If the business is run by one person, some of these details are personal information.
Where it came from
Published sources only:
- the business's own website;
- Companies House;
- the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers;
- councils' published lists of licensed skip companies;
- business directories such as Yell.
We never guess an email address.
How we contact businesses
- Limited companies: by email, at the address the business publishes.
- Sole traders and partnerships: by phone (only after checking the Telephone Preference Service), by letter or in person, not by unrequested email or text.
Our lawful basis
Our legitimate interest in telling local businesses about a service that is relevant to their trade (Article 6(1)(f)). We have weighed this against your interests and written that assessment down. You can ask to see it.
Who sees it
Only us, and the services we use to keep and send it: the list is kept in our own files (Microsoft OneDrive), and emails are sent from our Google account using a Gmail mail-merge add-on (YAMM, by Talarian), whose service runs in the United States. Google may also process our email in the United States. We don't sell or share the list.
How long we keep it
- If you don't reply or aren't interested, we delete your details 12 months after we last contacted you.
- If you ask us not to contact you again, we keep only your business name and email or phone, marked "do not contact", so that we never do.
Your rights
You have the right to object to direct marketing at any time. If you do, we stop at once and never contact you again.
Reply "no thanks" or email hello@buildaquote.uk, and we'll stop at once. You can also ask what we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to restrict how we use it. Complaints: as section 13 of our privacy notice, including the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
